Ask a room full of rally nerds to name the sport’s greatest underdog, and we’d bet our bottom dollar that the Lancia 037 will come up almost immediately, and more than once. A rear-wheel drive wedge car with a supercharged four-cylinder, this bad boy somehow managed to outfox Audi’s all-wheel-drive Quattro for the 1983 manufacturers’ title.
Unfortunately, Lancia itself hasn’t built anything with that kind of attitude in decades. So a boutique outfit in Piedmont picked up the torch (we’ve covered them pretty religiously), and now one of its 37 examples is headed to auction in the Kimera EVO37, chassis No. 18.

An S4 Heart in an 037 Body
Like the original, the EVO37 begins life as a Lancia Beta Montecarlo center section, which is why this 2025-built car carries a 1976 title.

From there, it’s stripped, reinforced, and clothed in carbon fiber, with Sergio Limone, the engineer who shaped the original 037, consulting on the project.

Rather than copying the 037’s supercharger-only setup, engine partner Italtecnica took a cue from the Delta S4, pairing a Volumex supercharger with a turbo on a bespoke 2.1-liter four-cylinder, with S4 engine mastermind Claudio Lombardi involved. The result is 498 horsepower and 406 lb-ft , all routed rearward through a six-speed Dana Graziano manual.

Kimera also claims a curb weight of just 2,376 pounds, which, we might add, is within 10 pounds of a new manual Miata, all while packing nearly triple the power. And the console switches labeled Uno, Due, and Tre let you pick how much of it you’d to unleash on your daily commute.

No. 18 also wears one of our favorite EVO37 specs. Its Luci del Bosco metallic brown borrows from the chocolate hue found on a handful of the best Miuras and Countachs, and it sits over gold wheels and a cabin that looks like the inside of a vintage Italian leather briefcase.

Beige leather wraps a pair of carbon bucket seats that have been embroidered with Kimera’s winged ram, the open-gate shifter gets finished off with a beautiful timber knob (a special request from the original commission), and the switchgear is only written in Italian (Iniezione, Avvio, Mappa). Even the gauges glow orange with Benzina and Acqua readouts.

Kimera just completed the build back in March of 2025, and the current owner has only logged 237 kilometers since then.
