A Frost Advisory is in effect for parts of Western New York tonight, with temperatures in the mid 30s expected to bring frost to areas inland from Lake Erie.
The National Weather Service office in Buffalo issued the advisory for Wyoming, Chautauqua and Southern Erie counties.
Where the Frost Advisory Applies
The advisory runs from midnight tonight to 9 a.m. EDT Tuesday.
It covers Wyoming, Chautauqua and Southern Erie counties, including Warsaw, Jamestown, Orchard Park and Springville.
Temperatures in the mid 30s will result in frost formation.
The greatest coverage of frost is expected inland from Lake Erie.
Frost could kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left unprotected.
NWS Buffalo said areas near the lakes will stay milder.
Frost Is Normal in October
A much cooler air mass moved in Monday, setting up the frost risk.
Forecasters note frost is common in October across the region, and the growing season is nearing its end.
Safety Reminders
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold, such as covering vegetation or bringing potted plants indoors.
Gardeners in the advisory area should cover frost-sensitive plants before temperatures bottom out early Tuesday.
