A flashlight becomes far more useful once it stops asking you to hold it. Fenix’s new SW06R puts a pivoting head, a two-way clip, and a magnetic tail on one compact body, which makes the case for wearing your task light instead of digging for it.

This isn’t a general-purpose EDC pitch. Fenix positions the SW06R for law enforcement, patrol work, and inspection jobs. Still, the layout speaks to anyone who has tried to aim a conventional flashlight while both hands are already busy.
What Fenix is building into the SW06R
Fenix lists a maximum output of 500 lumens and a maximum beam distance of 100 meters. The SW06R carries three light sources across eight modes: white, a 365nm UV emitter, and red. Fenix’s own materials disagree on this point. The global product page advertises four light sources including blue, while the U.S. listing and the mode table describe three. The mode cycle settles it: red runs constant or flashing, and blue appears only in the combined red and blue flash. There is no blue-only setting.
That combination still gives the tool a wider role than a single white-beam pocket light, especially for inspection work. One caution on the UV emitter, which Fenix ships with an ultraviolet radiation hazard warning: 365nm output is not something to point at eyes or skin, and it deserves the same care as any inspection UV source.
The company says the head adjusts through 200 degrees. Pair that with the two-way clip and magnetic tail, and the light can sit on a pocket, brim, MOLLE webbing, or a metal surface while the beam points toward the job instead of straight ahead.
The design is the real story
Most compact lights solve one problem: putting a bright beam in your hand. The SW06R is trying to solve the awkward part after that. A clip that stays useful at either end of the body and a head that pivots change where the light can live during a task.
That doesn’t make every listed feature equally important. The red and blue signal modes will be niche for many buyers, but the magnetic tail and adjustable head are the parts that turn a small light into a hands-free tool.
Battery, build, and weather claims
Fenix specifies a built-in 1,300mAh battery, USB-C charging through an internally waterproofed port, and an IP66 rating. The brand lists a maximum runtime of 63 hours and 35 minutes, though that figure will depend on the selected output. It also lists two hours and 15 minutes on High.
The body measures 3.89 inches long and weighs 3.10 ounces with the battery, throwing a 6500K beam through a polycarbonate lens. Fenix drop-tests its flashlights to 1.5 meters, and the SW06R carries the company’s limited lifetime warranty alongside a 15-day replacement window and two years of free repair.
The built-in battery is the cleanest tradeoff in the package. It removes the need to carry a separate cell, but it also means the battery isn’t user-replaceable. Fenix says a depleted unit takes about two hours to recharge with a 5V/1A adapter.
Price and availability
The SW06R is already listed in the U.S. at $54.95 against a $72.00 MSRP, and Fenix’s own store shows it shipping from July 27. That lands just above the SW05R-UV at $44.95 and the SW05R-RED at $41.95, which is a fair ask for the extra emitter, the pivoting head, and the jump from 150 to 500 lumens.
One caveat on sourcing: Fenix’s global product page includes an FAQ answer that refers to a different model name, so readers should treat the feature and specification sections as the clearest SW06R reference. Fenix’s U.S. listing still shows the SW06R as out of stock with a pre-order button, so the July 27 date is the stated ship date rather than a guarantee of stock on hand.
TG take
The SW06R’s appeal isn’t the 500-lumen headline. Plenty of lights can throw a brighter beam. Fenix is betting that a light you can clip, pivot, and park on a steel surface will get used more often because it stays out of your hand.
That is a more practical argument than piling on modes. At $54.95 the pricing fits a working tool rather than a specialty collectible, which makes the SW06R an easy suggestion for anyone who keeps discovering they need a third hand.
