Daniel Craig’s Rope-Winched 1959 Land Rover 109 Series II is Officially Up For Grabs

Daniel Craig spent five films being handed the keys to Aston Martins. So it’d probably be same to assume the man’s personal garage leans both fast and British in equal measure. Apparently, that’s only half right.

When Craig and his wife Rachel Weisz wanted a truck of their own, they went with 77 horsepower, a canvas top, and a literal rope coiled around the front bumper. That truck, a 1959 Land Rover 109 Series II pickup, is now up for grabs on Bring a Trailer.

First things first; this is not a Defender, because the Defender name wouldn’t exist for another 31 years. The Series II is the truck that gave Land Rover its signature barrel-sided shape, and this one wears the long 109-inch wheelbase in a Bronze Green repaint.

And the details here are incredibly to say the least. There’s a spare tire bolted to the hood, fender-mounted mirrors, side steps, an Exmoor Trim canvas bed cover, and that beautiful rope winch out front. Somebody even wired a rusty horseshoe to the grille for luck.

Under the hood sits the stock 2.25-liter inline-four, which is good for 77 hp and 124 lb-ft of torque through a four-speed manual, a dual-range transfer case, and a floor-shifted RoverDrive overdrive. Recent updates to the truck brought a Carter carburetor, electronic ignition, a new generator, and rebuilt leaf springs. The original Solex carb also comes along in a box for the purists out there.

Inside you get three individual seats redone in tan vinyl, Jaeger gauges, and a 75-mph speedometer that we’d describe as aspirational.

The sale includes a handwritten note from Craig and Weisz confirming the truck was theirs, asking the next owner to look after it, plus a signed portrait of Craig himself. The odometer reads 3,800 miles, though the seller admits true mileage is anyone’s guess at this point.
