The Citizen Promaster Wave Tracker is built primarily for yacht racing, where nailing the start sequence and reading changing marine conditions matter as much as boat speed. But its tide data, moon-phase display, and solar charging give it obvious crossover appeal for paddlers, anglers, boat owners, coastal hikers, and tool-watch fans generally.
At a glance, the JV3000-13E reads like a familiar Promaster: silver-tone steel case, black sunray dial, luminous markers, rotating bezel, orange strap. The giveaway is the high-definition MIP LCD tucked at 12 o’clock, integrated into the dial rather than dominating it, letting the watch keep its analog identity while still surfacing smartwatch-adjacent data.
Built for the starting line
Power comes from Citizen’s new Eco-Drive Caliber U812, which drives both the analog hands and the MIP display while running the watch’s full sailing toolkit.
Its headline feature is race mode: a countdown timer for regatta starts that flips into stopwatch mode the instant the countdown hits zero, so wearers move from pre-race timing to elapsed-time tracking without touching a button. It’s a useful backup for competitive sailors and a good showcase of how purpose-built this watch really is.
Citizen also puts the rotating bezel to work rather than treating it as dive-watch styling, its markings help gauge points of sail relative to wind direction. That detail will matter most to people with sailing experience, but it’s a genuine navigational tool rather than decoration.
Tide, moon, and daylight data
The tide graph is the Wave Tracker’s most useful everyday feature. The MIP screen plots tide-level changes through the day, including high/low times and whether the tide is rising or falling.
That’s relevant well beyond racing sailors. Anglers plan around tides, and paddlers, surfers, and beachgoers often want to know water conditions before heading out. It won’t replace a proper forecast, but it’s a handy glance-and-go reference.
The watch also shows moon phase and sunrise/sunset times for 203 world locations, useful for early starts, planning a return before dark, or just tracking daylight while traveling. Together, these functions push the Wave Tracker closer to a compact marine computer than a standard analog-digital watch, without turning into a touchscreen that demands daily charging.
Eco-Drive avoids charging anxiety
Citizen pairs those specialty functions with Eco-Drive solar charging, so there’s no battery swap and no nightly charging cable.
Citizen rates the JV3000-13E for up to three years on a full charge in power-save mode, with a light-level indicator plus power-reserve and charging-warning indicators to flag when it needs more light exposure. For a watch meant for long days outdoors or away from an outlet, that power system is a far better fit than a display-heavy wearable needing frequent recharges.
Case, crystal, and water resistance
The stainless-steel case measures 42.4mm wide and 13.9mm thick, sizable, but reasonable given it houses analog hands, a digital display, multiple pushers, a rotating bezel, and 200m water resistance.
The sapphire crystal carries an anti-reflective coating, a smart choice for a watch meant for bright, reflective conditions on the water. Rated to 20 bar (200 meters), the JV3000-13E sits solidly in professional sports-watch territory rather than lifestyle-watch territory.
Everyday functions remain useful
Beyond sailing tools, the Citizen Promaster Wave Tracker includes a perpetual calendar, world time, alarm, local-time setting, LED backlight, and switchable 12/24-hour display.
It also has a 1/100-second chronograph with up to 24 hours of elapsed-time measurement, and Citizen rates Caliber U812 at ±15 seconds/month accuracy, solid for a quartz-based movement built around precision timing. Even for someone who never enters a regatta, that combination of solar power, world time, chronograph, and rugged build makes it a capable travel and outdoor watch.
The watch also includes an impact detection function, which flags sudden shocks to the case, useful given how much rougher conditions can get on a boat deck compared to everyday wear.
A more considered strap choice
The orange strap is made from BENEBiOL, a biomass-based polyurethane developed by Mitsubishi Chemical that Citizen positions as a durable, lower-impact alternative to petroleum-derived materials. Citizen also notes select dial components use recycled materials, not enough to call the watch fully sustainable, but a sign the brand is rethinking materials in a category historically focused only on toughness.
Price and availability
Citizen initially projected a $750 US price for the JV3000-13E, but it launched at retail in June 2026 at $795. International pricing varies too: £579 in the UK and roughly SGD 1,057 in Singapore, so it’s worth checking local retailers before buying.
