A Freeze Warning is in effect early Saturday for Central Oregon and Wallowa County, and Frost Advisories cover the Portland metro foothills, the Willamette Valley and Hood River Valley this weekend.
The National Weather Service in Pendleton upgraded Thursday’s Freeze Watch to a Freeze Warning. NWS Portland issued the frost alerts.
Freeze Warning: Central Oregon
The warning runs from 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. PDT Saturday.
Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 30 degrees are expected in Bend, Redmond, Prineville and Madras.
Freeze Warning: Wallowa County
The coldest readings are forecast for the Wallowa Valley, with lows as low as 28 degrees.
The warning covers Enterprise, Joseph and Wallowa during the same hours, 1 a.m. to 10 a.m. PDT Saturday.
Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and sensitive vegetation. Unprotected outdoor plumbing could be damaged.
NWS Pendleton announced the freeze alerts for the region ahead of the upgrade.
Frost Advisory: Upper Hood River Valley
Two nights of frost are expected, with lows of 33 to 36 degrees.
The first advisory runs from midnight tonight to 9 a.m. PDT Saturday. The second runs from midnight Saturday night to 9 a.m. PDT Sunday.
Chances of a hard freeze below 32 degrees are high (70 to 90 percent) in Parkdale and Dee Saturday night into Sunday. Most of the valley, including Odell, should stay above freezing.
Frost Advisory: Portland Metro and Willamette Valley Foothills
This advisory runs from midnight Saturday night to 9 a.m. PDT Sunday, with lows of 33 to 36 degrees.
It covers the outer southeast Portland metro, the Clackamas County Cascade foothills, the Cascade foothills of Marion and Linn counties, the Linn County lowlands, the Lane County Cascade foothills, and the North Oregon Coast Range and its lowlands.
Cities include Sandy, Boring, Estacada, Albany, Lebanon, Brownsville, Harrisburg, Detroit, Mill City, Oakridge, Vernonia, Grand Ronde and McKenzie Bridge.
NWS Portland says the weekend will cool significantly.
Safety Reminders
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
Move potted plants indoors. Cover sensitive plants with lightweight cotton fabric such as bedsheets or thin blankets.
Protect outdoor plumbing in the Freeze Warning areas.
