There’s no shortage of navigation apps that will get you from A to B. The problem for us adventure bikers is that getting somewhere quickly isn’t necessarily the point.
We want to ride epic roads twisting over mountains, the scenic back routes nobody else seems to use, or the trails that disappears beyond the end of the tarmac. And when we find a great ride, we want to follow it, save it, share it with mates, and preferably avoid losing half the group we’re riding with at the third roundabout.
That’s exactly the thinking behind JUSTRIDE, a new motorcycle-specific app that has now launched on the Apple App Store.
It brings route discovery, planning, navigation, group riding, and safety features together in one place. And having worked closely with the team over the past year, we’re particularly pleased to see a growing collection of official Adventure Bike Rider routes included in the app.
Find roads actually worth riding
Rather than simply finding the quickest route to a destination, JUSTRIDE has been designed around the way bikers actually travel.
You can browse routes created by JUSTRIDE, verified creators, and the wider riding community, plan your own journey, import GPX files, record rides, and save routes for another day. There’s also a Twisty Route Generation feature in beta, which prioritises more engaging roads rather than simply funnelling you down the fastest available route.
For adventure riders, the ability to download maps and routes for offline use should prove particularly useful when exploring places where phone signal disappears. The app can also handle supported off-tarmac routes and imported GPX files.
Stop losing your mates
Anyone who has led a group ride will understand the pain of constantly checking mirrors, waiting at junctions, or turning around to find someone who missed a turning.
JUSTRIDE’s Group Navigation gives everyone the same route while Live Rider Location Sharing shows where participating riders are. That means people can ride at their own pace rather than desperately trying to keep the bike ahead in sight.
There are safety features too. JUSTRIDE Assist includes crash detection and emergency contact alerts, while Pro adds professional emergency support through Global Rescue and the option of satellite connectivity with compatible devices.
So, if you have a serious crash and the you’re unable to call for help, the system can assess what has happened and automatically trigger an emergency response.
Ride your favourite ABR routes
This is the bit we’re particularly excited about. JUSTRIDE has been working closely with Adventure Bike Rider, sponsoring UK routes including The Nelson Trail through Norfolk and our latest The Lakes Super 10, a 168-mile ride linking 10 of the Lake District’s greatest biking roads. Both routes were created to be ridden, not simply admired on the pages of a magazine, and JUSTRIDE makes doing that easier.
You’ll also find other ABR favourites in the app, including The Magnificent Seven, Rebellion Road Scotland, The Three Moors and Meals Way, the ABR Belly Buster, and the gloriously named Wakey Wakey, Back in Time for Eggs and Bakey route ridden at the ABR Festival.
The JUSTRIDE team even joined us with a stand at this year’s festival, so this is a partnership that has already spent plenty of time out in the real world rather than simply behind a laptop.
Ready to ride
JUSTRIDE is available now for iPhone through the Apple App Store, with the Android version coming soon. There’s a free version for discovering and recording rides, while JUSTRIDE Pro adds features including turn-by-turn navigation, Group Navigation, offline maps, Apple CarPlay support, and additional JUSTRIDE Assist services. Pro currently starts from £5.83 per month when billed annually, with a seven-day free trial.
