Vacheron Constantin has been drip-feeding its deep red lacquered dial through the Overseas lineup for a while now, but always at the top of the food chain. First the Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin got it, then the Tourbillon. Now that burgundy finally lands on an entry-level, time-and-date Overseas, with one catch: it only comes in the compact 34.5mm case, alongside a monochrome pink gold sibling.

Introduced back in 2023 to court smaller wrists of both sexes, the 34.5mm Overseas gives up nothing to its bigger siblings on paper. You still get the Maltese Cross-inspired six-sided bezel, the three-tier case architecture, a screw-down crown, and a proper 150m of water resistance, all wrapped in a package just 9.33mm thick.

Both watches ship with Vacheron’s tool-free interchangeable strap system and three options in the box. The steel model gets its matching bracelet plus burgundy alligator and rubber straps, while the gold version pairs its pink gold bracelet with white alligator and rubber.

That red lacquered dial is the headline here, and it’s arguably the best execution yet. A sunburst satin-finished center sits inside a polished steel ring that separates it from the velvet-finished minutes track, a detail we haven’t seen on the compact Overseas before, with 18k white gold markers and hands filled with blue-glowing Super-LumiNova.

The pink gold reference plays it straighter, opting for a gold-toned lacquered dial and matching gold hardware for a full tone-on-tone affair. Handsome, sure, but the steel is the one collectors will be fighting over.

Flip either watch over and the sapphire caseback reveals the in-house caliber 1088/1, a slim 3.83mm automatic running at 4Hz with a 40-hour power reserve and a 22k gold rotor decorated with a wind rose. It’s a lovely movement, though we’ll note it lacks the Geneva Seal, which stings a little at this price point.

Now, the elephant in the room. Vacheron has yet to offer this dial on the standard 41mm time-and-date model, which means the folks clamoring loudest for a red Overseas still can’t buy one that fits. Our guess? That release is sitting in a drawer in Geneva waiting for a slow news week.
