Finding a three-row SUV that fits both your family and your budget has become increasingly difficult. Many of the most popular options now start well into the $40,000 range, and adding a hybrid powertrain usually pushes prices even higher.

Fortunately, there are still a few exceptions. One affordable hybrid three-row SUV manages to keep its purchase price within reach while also delivering fuel economy that rivals much smaller crossovers, making it one of the strongest value picks for growing families.

In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from Kia websites, including the EPA.

The 2026 Kia Sorento Hybrid is a budget-friendly 3-row SUV

Comfortable, sleek, and with a price tag that is hard to argue with

If you’re looking for a family SUV with enough seats for all the kids, but you don’t have the budget to spend $40,000+ on the usual suspects, you don’t have a ton of options. However, there are a few budget-oriented options out there. Of these cheaper three-row SUVs, the Kia Sorento Hybrid stands out for its fantastic value and great efficiency. On top of this, it costs thousands of dollars less than the average three-row hybrid.

The Sorento Hybrid undercuts its rivals by thousands

Most of the most popular three-row SUVs on the market, such as the Kia Telluride Hybrid and the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid, start at around the $45,000-mark. In an age where everything is getting more and more expensive, it is becoming more important for families to find good deals that will save them money in the long run. The Kia Sorento Hybrid starts thousands cheaper than many of its core competitors, and you’ll be pretty impressed with its long list of standard features.

While the plush, near-luxury X-Line SX Prestige might feel a little tempting, we think that you’re much better off saving your money and sticking with the base EX trim. It comes with plenty of luxuries, including faux leather upholstery, heated front seats, and multi-zone climate control with air vents in the back. If you’re looking for a couple more luxuries, things like second-row captain’s chairs, ambient interior lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and Bose sound system can be had as part of the $2,000 Premium Package.

The third row gives you tons of versatility

While the Sorento is one of the most affordable three-row SUVs on the market, that doesn’t mean that it feels cheap by any means. While Kia initially went through a bit of a rough spot as far as quality is concerned a long time, it has been decades since then and things have changed drastically. Inside, the Sorento Hybrid feels spacious, well-equipped, and ready to haul the family on long road trips.

Those in the front two rows will find themselves more than comfortable, with plenty of room to stretch out, even if they are on the taller side. The third row is really only suitable for kids, though you could fit some adults back there at an absolute stretch. There is a bit of space in the trunk for a couple bags with the third row in use, but fold it away, and you get up to 38.5 cubic feet to store goods.

For a mainstream SUV, the Sorento Hybrid is extremely attractive on the inside. Nice materials have been used throughout and the build quality here is fantastic. As mentioned, you get a lot of standard luxuries, including power-adjustable front seats, heated front seats, and faux-leather upholstery. If you are looking to climb the trim ladder, things like a panoramic sunroof, genuine leather upholstery, second-row captain’s chairs, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated second row seats.

A strong offering of modern tech

The Sorento comes loaded with all the modern tech that you’d expect. The EX model features an analog gauge cluster with a four-inch screen in the middle to display core information, sharing a bezel with a 12.3-inch touchscreen which acts as a display for the infotainment system. The higher trim level comes with a 12.3-inch fully-digital gauge cluster instead.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on every model, as is in-dash navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio. You also get a standard wireless smartphone charging pad. The base model comes standard with a pretty mediocre six-speaker sound system, but a 12-speaker Bose system is optional on the EX and standard on the SX Prestige.

Despite being so spacious, Kia’s hybrid SUV manages 37 MPG

Lighter on fuel than most of the competition

When you think efficiency, the first brands that likely pop into your head are the likes of Toyota and Honda. It makes sense, as these Japanese automakers have been working on hybrid powertrains for an exceptionally long time now. However, Korean brands are catching up, and the Kia Sorento Hybrid manages to outdo a lot of other three-row SUVs when it comes to overall efficiency.

Unlike a lot of other hybrid three-row SUVs, Kia offers the Sorento with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. While there are some that need the all-weather traction that all-wheel drive offers, most can make do with the former, meaning you can get up to 37 miles per gallon combined. Opting for all-wheel drive does drop overall efficiency by quite a lot, but with the average new car in 2026 managing 28 miles per gallon combined, it still does exceptionally well.

Sorento Hybrid

Kia does things a little differently from a lot of the other key players in the hybrid market. It comes with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood which pairs with a single electric motor. This setup produces a combined 227 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. Instead of a CVT, which a lot of other automakers opt for, Kia uses a traditional six-speed automatic in the Sorento. All-wheel drive models also keep things mechanical rather than just slapping another electric motor on the rear axle.

The Sorento Hybrid is no speed demon, but it will get up to 60 miles per hour from a standstill in around 7.2 seconds, which is reasonably quick for a family hauler. Driving dynamics are pretty muted, so if you’re looking for a fun time behind the wheel, you should probably look elsewhere. Its ride quality, however, is superb, with it able to eat up most imperfections on the road without any complaints.

Family environs and low running costs, all at an affordable price

The Sorento Hybrid is an exceptionally versatile crossover, and one that gets overlooked far too often. Compared to some of the usual hybrid three-row options, it is cheaper and lighter on fuel, and it comes in at a price that is thousands lower than most of its closest competition. For families on a budget, Kia’s crossover has a lot to offer for the money that it demands.
