Anyone who has tried filming a motorcycle trip will know the frustration. You ride through an incredible landscape, carve along a brilliant stretch of road, or conquer a particularly memorable trail, only to discover later that the camera was pointing slightly too high, too low, or entirely the wrong way.

Film everything, choose the shot later
OK, so here’s the technical bit: the X6 uses two large, custom-made sensors co-developed with Sony, along with some serious processing power, to capture 360-degree footage at up to 8K 50fps (frames per second).
For those of us not well-versed in the latest video technology, that basically means the quality of your footage will be very good. You just need to point it at something interesting. The 2.32-inch OLED display incorporates pressure-sensitive controls, allowing you to start and stop recording by pressing the screen rather than trying to operate tiny controls through motorcycle gloves. FlowState Stabilisation and 360 Horizon Lock are designed to keep footage smooth and level, even when the bike is bouncing along broken roads or trails.
Audio has received some attention too. The camera uses 360-degree wind-protected microphones, while Insta360’s Hidden Engine Mic is designed to capture engine noise through solid conduction rather than relying entirely on sound travelling through turbulent air. That should be particularly appealing to anyone who has previously returned home with an hour of footage accompanied mainly by wind roar.
Better footage when conditions get difficult
OK, here’s another technical bit: the X6 also records 10-bit colour and supports I-Log and Dolby Vision. Again, that may mean very little unless you’re into video production, but the important part is that it helps the camera retain more detail in bright skies and darker areas of the picture.
And the replaceable lens should provide a little extra reassurance when the camera is being exposed to road grime, stones, branches, and everything else a motorcycle trip throws at it. It’s also waterproof to 20m without an additional case so if you do fail miserably at a water crossing, your camera will survive considerably better intact than your ego.
