The electric travel trailer has always been a great idea, but pricing has been ambitious to say the least. Lightship and Pebble proved people actually want a towable EV, but then priced that privilege well into six figures.

Now California startup Aboard has entered the chat with the T4, a hybrid electric trailer that keeps all of the clever stuff we love and cuts the sticker nearly in half.

Founder Tao Lyu spent his career at BMW, Volkswagen Group, and Li Auto, the Chinese automaker that turned range-extended EVs into a phenomenon. So it’s no shock the T4 borrows that exact architecture. Instead of a roof full of solar panels praying for sunshine, a 41kWh LFP battery pairs with an onboard generator that tops the pack back up whenever nature isn’t cooperating.

All in, the platform serves up 200kWh of usable energy, enough for a full week off-grid on a single charge. The generator refills the battery from 20 to 80 percent in about half an hour, and there’s enough juice on tap to fast-charge your gear, run every appliance onboard, or even feed electrons back into your electric tow rig.

The T4 isn’t just dead weight behind your hitch, either. Electric motors on the tandem axles push the trailer along during acceleration and climbs, easing the strain on whatever’s up front. And electro-mechanical brakes with ABS handle the descents, while Aboard’s Shadow Drive system layers in cameras, radar, remote hitching, and auto-leveling.

At 6,200 pounds dry and 23′ 8″ long, it stays within reach of half-ton trucks and larger SUVs so there’s no Super Duty required.

Inside, 270 degrees of panoramic glass wraps a cabin that sleeps four across two convertible lounges. A mid-ship kitchen brings an induction cooktop, fridge, microwave, and, because this is a premium rig after all, a wine cooler.

The dry bath pulls double duty as a mudroom thanks to its own exterior door, and the powered rear tailgate folds down into a private deck. Heat pump climate control and 52 gallons of fresh water round out the off-grid credentials.
