Home Motors Shelby Turned the F-150 Raptor R Into a 1,000-HP Baja Runner That Costs More Than a Supercar

Ford and Ram have spent the better part of a decade trying to out-crazy each other on who builds the most unhinged desert truck. The factory F-150 Raptor R already throws 720 horsepower at that fight, which is a genuinely ridiculous number for a pickup. Shelby American took one look and decided 720 was leaving too much on the table.

The star of the lineup is the Baja Raptor R, which starts with the Raptor R’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8 and cranks it up to eleven. Shelby ditches the factory blower for a 3.8-liter Whipple supercharger, then piles on a billet throttle body, a high-flow air intake, and a dual-core intercooler to keep everything breathing nicely.

The result is “well over 1,000 horsepower,” up from an already-silly 720. Shelby hasn’t quoted a torque figure yet, which feels like a strange thing to leave off a truck like this, but a tuned Borla exhaust means you’ll hear all of it coming.

A thousand horses are useless if the truck folds the first time it leaves the pavement, so Shelby backed up the engine work with serious off-road hardware. You get a lift kit, 37-inch BFGoodrich mud-terrain tires on 18-inch off-road wheels, and an Addictive Desert Designs steel front bumper with recovery points and a 30-inch LED light bar.
Out back, a Shelby chase rack hauls two full-size spares like a proper Baja runner, and the rear bumper picks up a pair of 10-inch reverse lights. Power-deployable running boards, smoothed fender flares, a vented hood, and full-length racing stripes round things out.

Inside, there’s carbon fiber trim, billet racing pedals, top-grain leather seat covers, and a serialized Shelby Registry plaque so nobody mistakes it for a lift-kit knockoff.
Then comes the part that stings – the price. The Baja Raptor R runs $194,795, which is more than plenty of actual supercars. If four-digit power is more than you need, the V6 Baja Raptor still makes a wild 555 hp and starts at $146,795.
