It’s a fantastic week for returning shows on streaming services. Four of the five shows spotlighted on this list are back for either their second or third season. The No. 1 show this weekend revolves around a civil war, where dragons play a giant part in determining the outcome. You can probably guess what Game of Thrones spin-off I’m talking about.
As for the rest of the new shows, one is a Paramount+ espionage thriller with a stacked cast. The other two returning shows hail from Apple TV and Peacock, respectively. Finally, a Netflix thriller from one of the streamer’s most prolific authors. All five shows can be streamed in the U.S.

The Capture season 3
The return of a captivating political thriller
In The Capture season 3 trailer, Holliday Grainger’s Rachel Carey asks, “How do we sort fact from fiction, and how can we believe what we see?” Those questions feel all-too-real, especially in today’s age of misinformation and cyberattacks. The Capture is a fictional show that depicts how the UK uses a special program to manipulate surveillance footage and create deepfakes to control narratives and modify evidence.
Carey revealed the UK’s corruption in season 2, and now, she must face the consequences in this new season. To make matters worse, Carey witnesses a shooting, but the compromised footage hides the gunman’s identity. The walls are closing in, and with few allies, Carey doesn’t know who she can trust. The Capture has the energy of a 1970s political thriller set in the digital world.
The Capture season 3 is now streaming on Peacock.

Sugar season 2
The neo-noir with a major twist
In some detective shows, you can jump in at any point and watch in whatever order you want. That’s true of episodic shows like Law & Order, Criminal Minds, and CSI. Sugar, Apple TV’s neo-noir detective series, is a show with an insane plot twist in the first season that you’ll never see coming. While not required, knowing the twist in season 1 will help you better understand the show in its second season.
Colin Farrell returns as John Sugar, a Los Angeles private detective whose next case has him searching for the brother of a local boxer. At the same time, Sugar is also trying to find his missing sister. Sugar clearly loves 1970s noirs, so fans of that genre will appreciate the show’s callbacks and homages.
Sugar season 2 premieres on Apple TV on June 19.

I Will Find You
Harlan Coben’s next mystery is out now
Stephen King’s works will always be the gold standard for Hollywood book-to-screen adaptations. Harlan Coben is essentially becoming Netflix’s version of Stephen King. Coben’s books have now inspired 13 shows on Netflix, including his latest mystery, I Will Find You, which is now streaming on Netflix.
David Burroughs (Sam Worthington) is serving a life sentence for the murder of his son, a crime he never committed. While incarcerated, David’s ex-sister-in-law, Rachel Mills (Britt Lower), shows him a picture of Matthew, who appears to be alive. Moved by this newfound information, David breaks out of prison and sets out to find the people who kidnapped his son. This is a Harlan Coben series, so always expect the unexpected.
I Will Find You is now streaming on Netflix.

The Agency season 2
Michael Fassbender’s Martian finds himself in deep trouble
Michael Fassbender is a traitor. At least that’s what his character claims in The Agency season 2 trailer. Brandon Colby (Fassbender), codename Martian, is a CIA agent who “betrayed his country and lied to his colleagues.” He’s still haunted by his lover and the woman he could not save, Samia (Jodie Turner-Smith).
However, Samia is still alive as a prisoner in Sudan, and Martian will do anything to save her, even if that means betraying the agency. There’s a mole in London Station, and the agency plans to fish them out. The Agency is some good old-fashioned espionage fun with an overqualified cast. Plus, the entirety of season 2 releases on the same day, so I’m sure some of you will prepare for a binge-watching session.
All 10 episodes of The Agency season 2 stream on Paramount+ on June 21.

House of the Dragon season 3
Westeros has never seen a battle like this
I’ll be honest with you. I was disappointed with the ending of House of the Dragon season 2. The back half of last season was building up toward an epic battle between the Greens and the Blacks, and it never happened. The season 2 finale felt like the penultimate episode. Well, season 3 is here, and House of the Dragon will kick things off with a battle.
More specifically, it’s the Battle of the Gullet, one of the most devastating battles in the history of Westeros. House of the Dragon has had its fair share of epic battles, with Targaryen warfare in the skies. I’m expecting a lot of carnage to kick off the third season.
House of the Dragon season 3 premieres on HBO and HBO Max on June 21.

More shows are coming your way
One of the more advantageous aspects of streaming is the variety. There are always more shows to choose from; you just need to know where to look. If you head to Netflix and HBO Max, you’ll find plenty of entertaining miniseries, including One Day, Mare of Easttown, and Black Rabbit. If you’re traveling, download some Prime Video shows for your plane ride, including Spider-Noir and The Girlfriend.
