Leatherman gear is not cheap, so a sale is a better time than usual to add a multitool to your EDC or expand one you already own. Amazon’s U.S. Prime Big Deal Days sale ends October 7 at 11:59 p.m. PDT, and three current Leatherman listings are worth a closer look because they solve very different everyday problems.
The FREE K2X combines a substantial folding knife with seven additional functions. The Bit Kit Set adds 42 driver tips to compatible Leatherman tools. The tiny Micra takes another approach entirely, packing scissors and nine other functions into a 1.8-ounce keychain multitool.
The best deal depends less on which product has the biggest discount and more on what is missing from your current EDC.
Leatherman FREE K2X: A Knife First, Multitool Second
If you use a knife far more frequently than pliers, the Leatherman FREE K2X offers an interesting alternative to a conventional pliers-based multitool.
Its centerpiece is a 3.3-inch 420HC combo blade, which combines plain and serrated cutting edges. Leatherman builds seven more functions into the handle: a pry tool, package opener, awl, bottle opener, Phillips screwdriver, medium screwdriver, and extra-small screwdriver.

Price: $53.97
Where to Buy: Amazon
That gives the K2X eight functions in total. More importantly, the selection covers many of the small jobs that make people reach for a multitool in the first place. You can open a package, tighten a screw, pry at something small, or open a bottle without adding separate tools to your pocket.
Leatherman’s FREE architecture uses magnets to help make the implements easier to access. The company says the K2X’s tools open with one hand and lock into place.
The compromise is size. The K2X weighs 4.9 ounces and measures 4.5 inches closed, so this is not an ultralight pocketknife.
That makes the K2X best for someone who wants a substantial EDC knife first and appreciates having several common tools built into the same handle.
Leatherman Bit Kit Set: Make Your Existing Multitool More Useful
The Leatherman Bit Kit Set is less exciting to look at, but it could provide the biggest practical upgrade if you already carry a compatible Leatherman.
You get 21 double-ended bits providing 42 driver tips. The selection includes Phillips, flat, Torx, square, Pozidriv, and numerous metric and imperial hex sizes.

Price: $20
Where to Buy: Amazon
Instead of being limited to whatever screwdriver happens to be built into your multitool, you can carry a much broader selection for electronics, furniture, bicycles, appliances, and other repair jobs.
Compatibility needs some explanation. Leatherman says the Bit Kit works with its tools and knives equipped with bit drivers, as well as tools used with the company’s Removable Bit Driver accessory. The included eyeglass screwdriver has a narrower compatibility list: Leatherman’s product page specifies Wave and Charge models. Check your exact model before buying.
The complete kit weighs 4 ounces, so carrying every bit does add weight. You do not necessarily need all 21 bits every day, however. You can select the ones relevant to a particular job or trip rather than treating the full kit as mandatory pocket carry.
Leatherman Micra: 10 Tools That Can Live on Your Keychain
The Leatherman Micra solves almost the opposite problem. Instead of expanding capability with more bits or a larger knife, it puts useful everyday functions into something small enough to stay with you.
The Micra weighs just 1.8 ounces and measures 2.5 inches closed. Its centerpiece is a pair of spring-action scissors rather than pliers.

Price: $34.97
Where to Buy: Amazon
You also get a 420HC knife, flat/Phillips screwdriver, ruler, nail cleaner, tweezers, bottle opener, nail file, medium screwdriver, and extra-small screwdriver, giving the Micra 10 functions in total.
That selection makes it particularly useful for small everyday annoyances: cutting tags, trimming a loose thread, filing a damaged nail, tightening a small screw, or grabbing something with the tweezers.
There is one obvious limitation. If you associate Leatherman primarily with pliers and wire cutters, the Micra is not a miniature replacement for a Wave+. Its spring-action scissors define the design.
That is also why it works so well as a companion to a larger multitool rather than necessarily replacing one.
Which Leatherman Prime Deal Should You Buy?
These three Leatherman deals target three different EDC problems. Choose the FREE K2X if you want a knife-centered multitool. Pick the Bit Kit Set if a wider selection of driver tips would make your existing Leatherman more useful. Choose the Micra if compact scissors and small everyday tools are the priority.
The best buy is the one that fills a gap in your carry, not simply the one with the largest discount.
