A Frost Advisory covers Modoc County in northeastern California and a swath of south-central Oregon’s high desert early Wednesday morning, as overnight temperatures fall into the low-to-mid 30s.
The NWS Medford office has the advisory in effect from 4 AM to 8 AM PDT Wednesday, with temperatures between 33 and 38 degrees expected to bring frost formation across the region’s high-elevation basins.
Modoc County, California: Alturas, Likely and Canby
In California, the advisory covers Modoc County, including Alturas, Likely, Canby and Lookout. The area’s high elevation and dry, clear conditions make it prone to early-morning frost even in late summer.
Klamath Basin and Klamath County, Oregon: Chemult, Bonanza and Beatty
Across the state line, the advisory stretches through the Klamath Basin and northern and eastern Klamath County, including Crescent, Chemult, Sprague River, Beatty, Bly, Dairy, Bonanza and Lorella.
Lake County, Oregon: Fort Rock, Christmas Valley and Silver Lake
Central and eastern Lake County is also included, covering Fort Rock and the Christmas Valley and Silver Lake areas, along with locations just east of Lakeview.

Frost can harm sensitive outdoor vegetation, and uncovered tender plants may be killed if left exposed overnight. Take steps now to protect gardens and sensitive crops from the cold, such as covering plants or bringing potted vegetation indoors before temperatures drop early Wednesday morning.
