A Freeze Warning has been issued for 30 counties in southern Illinois and southeast Missouri as another night of sub-freezing temperatures is expected.
The National Weather Service in Paducah upgraded its earlier Freeze Watch to a warning, with lows as low as 31 degrees. It runs from 11 PM CST Saturday to 8 AM CST Sunday, Nov. 8.
Where the warning is in effect
Illinois has 19 counties: Jefferson, Wayne, Perry, Franklin, Hamilton, Jackson, Williamson, Saline, Union, Edwards, Wabash, White, Gallatin, Johnson, Pope, Hardin, Alexander, Pulaski and Massac.
Missouri has 11 counties: Perry, Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Wayne, Carter, Ripley, Butler, Stoddard, Scott, Mississippi and New Madrid.
Cities in the warning area include Cape Girardeau, Carbondale, Mount Vernon, Poplar Bluff, Sikeston, Metropolis, Murphysboro, Herrin and Harrisburg.

A second night of freezing
Parts of the same area, and much of central and eastern Missouri and west-central Illinois, were already under a Freeze Warning for early Saturday morning, ending at 8 AM CST.
NWS St. Louis said that warning covered 46 counties in Missouri and Illinois, with temperatures as low as 28 degrees.
What the freeze could do
The Weather Service says frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Forecast lows early Sunday are in the upper 20s to low 30s across much of the region, according to the NWS forecast map.

What to do
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. Bring potted plants indoors and cover garden beds before dark.
Protect exposed outdoor plumbing, such as hose bibs and irrigation lines.
Conditions warm a little Sunday, with highs in the low 60s, before another cooldown arrives midweek, according to NWS Paducah.
