CFMoto has unveiled two new mid-size adventure bikes for 2027: the road-focused 550MT and a trail-ready 550MT-X designed for off-road exploration.
The Chinese manufacturer has been making serious inroads into the adventure bike market, particularly with its popular 450MT. Now, it’s looking to build on that success with two new models.
Both share a new 526cc parallel-twin engine producing approximately 53bhp and 52Nm of torque, delivered at 8,500rpm and 6,000rpm respectively. That’s roughly 30% more power than the 450MT.
But beyond the engine, the two bikes take rather different approaches to adventure biking.
Before we get stuck in, let me ask you this: do fancy test riding the latest adventure, touring, and trail bikes? At the ABR Festival 2027 (25–27 June, Ragley Hall, Warwickshire), The world’s motorcycle manufacturers will be gather with their test fleets with one aim in mind: to get you riding.

And that’s just the start. Think Glastonbury with motorbikes, incredible riding, live music, posh loos, hot showers, and a community of people who love bikes as much as you do. It’s one hell of a weekend. Find out more and book your tickets here.
OK, back to the new CFMotos.
CFMoto 550MT: Made for the open road
Let’s start with the standard 550MT, which looks like an appealing proposition for riders who want the comfort and technology of a larger adventure tourer without the accompanying bulk.
There’s a generous 23l fuel tank for long-distance touring, fully adjustable KYB suspension, and a low seat height that can be adjusted between 800mm and 820mm.
But perhaps the most interesting feature is the amount of technology CFMoto has packed into it.
There’s an 8″ TFT display with Apple CarPlay connectivity, cruise control, Bosch cornering ABS, traction control, and a rear detection system designed to warn riders about vehicles approaching from behind.
There’s also a keyless ignition system and a bi-directional quickshifter, while an electronic clutch version will be available.
It’s an impressive equipment list for a motorcycle in this class, and one that could make the 550MT punch well above its engine size.
CFMoto 550MT-X: Ready to get dirty

If your idea of adventure involves getting down and dirty, the 550MT-X takes things in a more rugged direction. The most obvious difference is its 21″ front and 18″ rear wheel combination, allowing riders to fit dedicated off-road tyres.
There’s also fully adjustable KYB suspension, offering 230mm of travel at the front and 220mm at the rear, along with an impressive 250mm of ground clearance.
Despite sporting a larger engine, CFMoto claims the 550MT-X weighs just 172kg dry, making it 3kg lighter than the 450MT.
It also features a 16l fuel tank, a still approachable and adjustable seat height of 830–850mm, rally-inspired styling, and a slim profile designed to make moving around the motorcycle easier when riding standing up.
Technology includes a ride-by-wire throttle, three riding modes, switchable ABS and traction control, and a vertically mounted 6.2″ display. And, like the road-going version, there’s a bi-directional quickshifter.
CFMoto 550MT and 550MT-X UK price and availability

What’s interesting about the new 550MT range is that CFMoto has developed two distinct versions rather than simply fitting different wheels to the same motorcycle.
One prioritises long-distance comfort and touring technology, while the other puts the emphasis on off-road capability. UK prices and arrival dates have yet to be announced, and CFMoto says the development-stage specifications may change before production.
But if the manufacturer can deliver the same value for money that helped make the 450MT so popular, we reckon it could be onto a winner. The question is, which version would you choose?
