NWS Eureka issued a Freeze Warning and a Frost Advisory for parts of Northern California from 1 AM to 9 AM PDT Thursday.
Temperatures could fall as low as 28 degrees in the Freeze Warning area.
Freeze Warning: Mendocino and Lake Counties
The warning covers Northwestern Interior Mendocino, Northeastern Interior Mendocino and Northern Lake (including Potter Valley, Covelo, Gravelly Valley Airport and Willits).
Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 are expected. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation, and could damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.
Frost Advisory: Del Norte, Humboldt and Mendocino Counties
The advisory covers eight zones: Coastal Del Norte, Interior Del Norte, Northern Coastal Humboldt, Southwestern Humboldt, Northeastern Interior Humboldt, Southeastern Interior Humboldt, Coastal Mendocino and Southwestern Interior Mendocino.
Places include Fieldbrook, McKinleyville, Willow Creek, Benbow, Gasquet, Bridgeville, Kneeland, Arcata, Ft Dick, Hoopa, Garberville, Philo and Dinsmore.
Temperatures as low as 33 degrees will result in frost formation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered.
Low cloud cover or fog in some valleys, especially closer to the coast, may limit the frost potential.
How to Protect Plants and Pipes
Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
To keep water pipes from freezing, wrap or drain them, or let them drip slowly.
Details and hazard maps are on weather.gov/eka and the NWS Western Region hazards map.
