Vintage dive-watch styling is easy to find, but buying one often means deciding how much modern practicality you are willing to sacrifice for the old-school look. A watch can resemble something built for the water without offering much water resistance, while a faithful mechanical recreation can bring additional cost and maintenance.

The Bespoke Post x Timex Heritage 66 takes a practical route. Inspired by a 1966 Timex Skin Diver, it pairs a 40mm stainless-steel case with 200m water resistance, a screw-down crown, a unidirectional bezel, a quartz movement, and two included straps. Timex currently lists the gift set for $300. It is a modern interpretation, not a literal reproduction of the 1966 watch, and that may be exactly why it works as an everyday option.

The 1966 Skin Diver provides the starting point

Timex says the Heritage 66 was pulled from its archives and “takes its cues” from the 1966 Timex Skin Diver. That wording matters because this is a modern interpretation rather than a specification-for-specification reissue.

The connection is nevertheless obvious. A simple black dial sits inside a rotating aluminum top ring, while luminous hands and hour markers improve low-light visibility. Timex adds a date window at 3 o’clock, preserving the straightforward tool-watch appearance without leaving out a useful everyday feature.

The bezel is unidirectional, an important detail for a dive-inspired watch because it can be used to track elapsed time. Timex specifically says it can be used underwater.

A 40mm case modernizes the old formula

The stainless-steel case measures 40mm across and 12mm thick, and the watch weighs 73.3 grams. Those are modern proportions compared with many genuinely vintage watches, giving it contemporary dimensions without straying far from the compact feel associated with vintage-inspired watches.

A mineral glass crystal protects the dial. Timex itself notes that mineral glass remains susceptible to scratches, although it offers better scratch resistance than acrylic.

That makes the crystal one of the clearer compromises at this price. Buyers prioritizing maximum scratch resistance may prefer sapphire, but Timex has not presented the Heritage 66 as having one.

The watch uses a battery-powered quartz analog movement. Timex specifies an SR621SW battery but does not publish a battery-life estimate on the product page.

The water specifications give the styling some substance

The Heritage 66 is rated for 200 meters of water resistance and uses a screw-down crown.

Together with the unidirectional timing bezel, those specifications make the aquatic styling more than decoration. They give the Heritage 66 considerably more water capability on paper than a retro watch designed primarily for casual wear.

There is still a distinction between those specifications and independent dive certification. Timex does not identify the Heritage 66 as ISO 6425 certified on its product page, so there is no reason to add a certification claim the manufacturer itself does not make.

What we can say confidently is simpler: Timex specifies 200m water resistance and provides the screw-down crown and elapsed-time bezel expected from a water-focused design.

Quartz makes this easier to live with

A quartz movement may disappoint buyers hoping the 1966 inspiration would lead to a mechanical watch, but it also fits the Heritage 66’s practical approach.

There is no need to keep an automatic movement running between wears or reset the watch after leaving it in a drawer. Pick it up, check the time, and go.

That makes quartz less of a cost-cutting footnote and more of a buyer-fit question. Someone seeking mechanical nostalgia will probably want a different watch. Someone who mainly wants the Skin Diver aesthetic with minimal upkeep may find quartz more convenient.

Two straps make the gift set genuinely useful

Timex supplies an orange double-layer fabric slip-thru strap plus a black HNBR rubber strap. Both use quick-release spring bars, so changing the setup does not require tools.

The orange fabric gives the watch its strongest vintage-outdoor character, while the black rubber provides a more subdued alternative that makes sense around water. With a standard 20mm lug width, owners also have plenty of aftermarket strap choices.

Bespoke Post branding is kept relatively discreet. Its name is engraved on the crown, while the caseback carries a skin-diver silhouette that Timex says references advertising accompanying its original 1966 Skin Diver.

The collaboration therefore does not depend on covering the dial with logos. Most of its identity comes from the archive-inspired design and strap combination.

Who should buy the Bespoke Post x Timex Heritage 66?

The Bespoke Post x Timex Heritage 66 is best suited to someone who wants vintage Timex dive-watch character with the convenience of a quartz movement.

Its 40mm steel case, 200m water resistance, screw-down crown, unidirectional bezel, lume, and two straps provide genuine everyday utility behind the retro appearance. The quartz movement keeps ownership simple, although mechanical-watch enthusiasts may consider it the biggest reason to look elsewhere. The mineral crystal is another compromise worth considering at the current $300 asking price.

What makes the Heritage 66 work is that Timex has not tried to preserve 1966 unchanged. It has kept the Skin Diver influence visible while adapting the idea into a straightforward modern watch. For someone who wants vintage styling that can move easily between everyday wear, weekends, and time around the water, that combination is the real attraction.
