A Frost Advisory is in effect for a large stretch of eastern Washington and the Idaho Panhandle as overnight temperatures are forecast to fall as low as 33 degrees.
The National Weather Service office in Spokane issued the advisory, warning that frost could form across the region from midnight tonight through 9 a.m. PDT Sunday.
Where the Frost Advisory Applies
The advisory covers the Coeur d’Alene Area, the Idaho Palouse, the Washington Palouse, the Moses Lake Area, the Upper Columbia Basin and the Spokane Area.
Cities included in the advisory are Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, Moses Lake, Pullman, Moscow, Ritzville, Ephrata, Post Falls, Spokane Valley and Cheney. Other communities under the advisory include Rockford, Othello, Potlatch, Oakesdale, Genesee, Worley, Rosalia, Tekoa, Harrington, Grand Coulee, Creston, La Crosse, Uniontown, Odessa, Wilbur, Fairfield, Airway Heights, Coulee City, Quincy, Plummer, Davenport, Colfax and Hayden.
Cold Enough to Kill Sensitive Plants
Forecasters say the frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Plants left uncovered overnight may not survive.
NWS Spokane framed the cold snap as an early sign of the changing season.
Multiple Cold Mornings Ahead
NWS Spokane says the chilly pattern will likely stretch beyond Sunday, with near-freezing temperatures possible Saturday through Monday mornings across the valleys.
Anyone camping in the region this weekend should prepare for cold overnight conditions in addition to the frost risk.
Safety Reminders
Gardeners and growers are urged to take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold, such as covering vegetation or bringing potted plants indoors.
Those with outdoor plans should dress in layers and be ready for temperatures near freezing during the early morning hours.
